London: -- Published on January 9, Issue 821 of the Pink Paper lead with a story reminding readers of the Queer Youth Alliance's campaign against Kent County Council's "son of Section 28". The country's principal newspaper for the LGBT community went on to report that Ben Summerskill, chief executive of Stonewall UK, has pressed Michael Howard to justify Tory-run Kent County Council's stance. The leader of the Conservative Party has said that it would be "inappropriate" for him to comment, despite his constituency being within the Local Education Authority affected by Kent County Council's policy and previously admitting that Section 28 “was a mistake”.
David Henry, President of the
Queer Youth Alliance, said: "We are deeply disappointed that Mr Howard feels
he cannot intervene. It sends out a message to gay people everywhere that
the Conservative Party are not changing as much as they’d like us to think.
Despite this, we still intend to rid Kent of Section 28. It’s now a priority
for gay people everywhere, Stonewall are behind us and since they managed to
do it across The Queer Youth Alliance is continuing to run it's petition that now has nearly 1000 signatures from all over the globe. You can sign it at our website (see below).
