MANCHESTER, January 29, 2008  –  To celebrate LGBT History Month in February the men of Manchester’s Lesbian and Gay Foundation (LGF) are developing as much testosterone as they can muster to develop a more hirsute look in order to raise funds for the charity.

On February 1, the guys will stop shaving, put their smooth flawless complexions to one side and cultivate their inner ‘he-man’ in celebration of queer heritage (or their inner Burt Reynolds).

Shaving will continue to be taboo until February 29 when all the guys get together to see how well they have done with a special photo shoot.

Chair of the LGF’s Board of Trustees, David McGovern, is thrilled to be, er, ‘facing up’ to leading the growth challenge.

“Secretly, I have been looking for an excuse to grow facial hair and a moustache like my hero Burt Reynolds,” he admitted.

“I can’t think of a better reason to realise a secret long held ambition and raise money for such a fantastic cause at the same time.”

A spokesperson for LGF butted-in: “As much as we appreciate David’s enthusiasm in likening himself to Burt Reynolds we have always seen him as a bit of a Dolly  ourselves!”

Levi or Parton, we wonder?

Anyone is interested in joining the moustache growing gang and raising funds for the Lesbian and Gay foundation please contact Andrew. Tel: 0161 235 8001, or visit the LGF website for a sponsorship form.

Those wishing to “go the whole hog” and grow a beard are also encouraged to do so!

You know the old saying that if you hang around long enough things will come back ... well yes you guessed it…

HANDY INFORMATION

Moustaches are back!

They’ve been updated from their 1970’s disco heyday and are sprouting up everywhere.

Sporting a moustache can say you are adventurous, have a sense of humour or that you don’t care what people think.

A moustache can be flattering if you choose a shape that suits your face so experiment with a few styles to find the one that gets you the most attention.

● A long moustache extends from above the mouth straight down to the jaw.
● The classic handlebar moustache can be grown full or thin to change its shape.
● A medium-short moustache is best for someone with small facial features.
● Traditional thin moustaches are confined to the upper lip.
● A small “soul patch” under the lower lip can add the illusion of a square jaw.
● Heavier moustaches look best with larger or squarer faces.

Grooming

● No matter what style you prefer you need to cultivate the facial fluff first.
● Use a clear shave gel or oil to help you stay in control when shaving.
● Trim and tame your hair to suit the style you’re going after.
● Shampoo and condition your moustache regularly.
● Invest in a good pair of hair trimmers.
