LONDON, September 3, 2008 – Four well-known speakers have been lined-up for a series of ‘open meetings’ for the local lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community to be launched next month by Croydon Area Gay Society (CAGS) Brian Paddick, once the highest ranking out gay officer in the country, and more recently a candidate for Mayor of London, gets the new venture underway with a light-hearted view of his life and experiences on October 7. The meetings – under the title “the Brief Encounter” – are free and open to all. They are being held at 8 pm on the first Tuesday of alternate months, at the “Brief” public house, 48 George Street, Croydon. Mr. Paddick is followed, on December 2 by radio and television journalist Ray Gosling and Alan Horsfall who is one of the founders of the group that became the Campaign for Homosexual Equality (CHE). Both have been campaigning for gay rights for well over 40 years, and continue their work on behalf of gay people to this day. The February meeting next year will feature Angela Mason OBE, once a radical campaigner and lesbian mother, later head of the Stonewall gay lobbying group, and currently a national government advisor on diversity and equality, will talk from her experience both inside and outside the establishment. “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to secure such distinguished and entertaining speakers,” commented David Page, chair of CAGS. “Future ‘Brief Encounter’ events will continue to entertain and inform LGBT people in and around Croydon.” For further details, and future speakers in this series when announced, see http://lgbtcroydon.ning.com.
