MOSCOW, October 31, 2006 (GayRussia.ru)
– One of the main organisers of antigay protests and hysteria against the
first ever gay pride march in Moscow earlier this year has been sacked by
the Liberal Democratic party (LDPR).
He is Nikolai Kuryanovich. A deputy
of the State Duma, lower chamber of Russian parliament,
The LDPR is one of the most stable
parties in contemporary Russia and has been represented in all parliaments
since the collapse of the Soviet Union. It is also considered as the party
of one man – Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
Today, Kuryanovich was sacked from
the party – the decision was taken almost unanimously, with two abstentions.
According to Igor Lebedev, the
leader of LDPR group in the Duma and son of Vladimir Zhirinovski,
Kuryanovich was dismissed “for systematic breaches of party and faction
discipline”.
Nikolai Kuryanovich said that he
considers the decision of his party as “absolutely without foundation”.
“I have always followed those
principles which the party proclaimed – ‘We are for Russians, we are for
poor’. I have been told that I should be more politically correct, more
tolerant”.
The decision by LDPR is considered
to be due to the increasing damage that deputy Kuryanovich is causing to his
party.
He was actively supporting the
extremists fighting against gays and lesbians on the streets of Moscow in
May. He himself went out in front on Moscow City Hall on May 27 to talk to
journalists proclaiming the actions of gays as illegal and sponsored by the
perverted West. He fully supported decision of Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov
who banned the first gay pride.
More recently, deputy Kuryanovich
has been actively involved in the organization of the so called “Russian
March” on the streets of Moscow by nationalists and fascists scheduled for
November 4 – the day of national unity in Russia.
The mayor of Moscow has denied
permission for the march, but organisers have vowed to go out on the streets
without permission.
Leading Russian gay rights activist
and the organizer of Moscow gay pride Nikolai Alekseev whose interview
appeared next to the interview of Kuryanovich in the leading Russian
newspaper Moskovski Komsomolets after Moscow gay pride in June, said
that his human rights organization “fully supports the decision of Russian
Liberal Democrats”.
“Not so long ago we received the
letter from the leader of the party Vladimir Zhirinovski in which he
expressed his support to all citizens of Russia,” he added. “Membership of
Kuryanovich in the party created a serious conflict with the views of the
party leader”.
It is widely believed that deputy
Kuryanovich’s ‘rise to scandalous fame’ became unbearable for Vladimir
Zhirinovsky before the next parliamentary elections scheduled for December
2007. The leader of LDPR decided to get rid of the ambitious nationalist
who went too far in his support for extremist activities.
Deputy Kuryanovich risks to loose
his mandate of the deputy and parliamentary privileges in just over a year
period as no political party in Russia will risk putting him on their party
electoral list. Without the mandate of the deputy Kuryanovich can become
target of prosecution department for his statements and actions which
contradicts Russian Criminal Code.
