MEP Slams
Poland’s Anti Gay Stance After Euro Parliament Votes. As
the European Parliament debated the question of homophobia in the EU and, in
particular Poland, despite attempts to get the subject off the agenda, UK
Green MEP Jean Lambert spoke out against the prominent Polish politicians
and ministers making public anti-homosexual statements and even promoting
anti-homosexual legislation.

Poland Urged to Drop New Law Banning ‘Homosexual
Propaganda’ in Schools. Following a debate on homophobia in
Europe yesterday, the European Parliament adopted a resolution today voicing
concern at the recent announcement by the Polish Education Minister of a new
draft law to outlaw ‘homosexual propaganda’ in schools.

Group Welcomes European Parliament Debate on Homophobia.
The Intergroup on Gay and Lesbian Rights welcomed the news that the
European Parliament would debate and adopt a resolution this week on
homophobia in Europe following a vote striking down a motion for dismissal
from the Union for the Europe of Nations political group.

Peter Tatchell, the internationally recognised human rights campaigner and
founder of the gay human rights group Outrage!, has today been chosen as the
Green Party’s general election candidate for Oxford East.

in Chisinau Should Go Ahead – Mayor of London. The Mayor of
London, Ken Livingstone, has this morning called for the Chisinau City
Council to allow the Gay Pride Parade in the Moldovan capital.

Gay Writer and Activist Seeking Refugee Status Returned to Iran by Turkish
Police. An urgent appeal on behalf of a courageous Iranian
gay activist and writer who was deported back to Iran from Turkey two weeks
ago was made last night by the Canadian-based Iranian Queer Organization (IRQO).

Iranian Gays Abandoned. By Mehdi.
This article was written by a 19-years-old gay Iranian
who tells how, while he was a student in London, his
boyfriend back home was executed for being gay. Mehdi says he was
scared of returning home and meeting the same fate when his student visa
expired last year – and of his asylum application to the Home Office.

To Support Polish Gays at London Embassy. Human Rights
campaigners will be staging a demonstration next month outside the Polish
Embassy in London to express their growing concern about the plight of the
LGBT community in Poland.

Cleansing: Government Denies Gays Are Targets of Killings.
The Iraqi lesbian and gay community and NGOs dealing with gay issues have
called for urgent action to protect gays and lesbians in the country.
The groups say that the number of victims of “sexual cleansing” is growing
on a daily basis.

Authorities Deny Gays the Rights Confirmed by Moldovan Supreme Court
Decision. News came from Brussels on Friday
afternoon that the Chisinau city authorities had, for the third year
running, banned a Gay Pride public event.

Gibraltar’s Equality Rights Group, GGR, is today is challenging local
Government on its housing policy towards same-sex couples.

Disappointed as European Parliament Adopts Soft Approach on Homophobia in
Poland. The European arm of the International Lesbian and
Gay Association expressed “disappointment” at the Civil Liberties, Justice
and Home Affairs (LIBE) Committee of the European Parliament following a
discussion yesterday on homophobia in Poland.

Victory for Riga Gay Pride.
The Regional Administrative Court
ruled this afternoon that the decision by the Riga City Council to ban last
year’s Gay Pride March was illegal – and overturned a lower court decision –
leaving Mozaika, the alliance of LGBT and their friends, “gratified”.

Murder Music’ campaign won the Advocacy Award at the Black LGBT Community
Awards 2007 gala ceremony in London on-board on a luxury Thames river boat.

Help. Sri Lanka might be a country that still criminalises

Gays Welcome City’s Relationship Register. Victorian human
rights group, Civil Union Action!, has warmly welcomed the launch of
Melbourne City Council’s relationship register last night, but has urged the
Bracks government to follow its lead and enact a state-wide scheme.

More Gays Executed. Iraqi lesbians and gays continue to be
subjected a systematic reign of terror by Shia death squads, Ali Hili, the
coordinator of the human rights group Iraqi LGBT, said in London this
morning.
