'Kill Gays' Singer to Play Birmingham.
A pop star who advocates
“shooting queers” because he says that “they bring AIDS and disease upon
people” is scheduled to play in Birmingham at the White Pearl Club (Suite 7,
Upper Trinity Street) this Friday, September 3, 2004.

Gay Leaders in US Call on Bush to Repudiate Inflammatory Speakers.
In the past few weeks, concert promoters have cancelled shows featuring
Jamaican dancehall stars who have recorded songs with homophobic lyrics.
But the same standards set by the promoters are not being followed by the
organisers of the Republican National Convention, which got underway in New
York today

For One Irishwoman,
Manchester Pride Meant Queuing, by Steven Kay and
Andy Harley. Pity poor Pride-goer Shannon Docherty from Dublin.
She booked her “Big Weekend” ticket through Ticketmaster in Ireland.
But on arrival at Manchester’s “gay village” on Saturday, she discovered
that her ticket was not an admission ticket, but a “voucher” to exchange for
a wristband.

Reggae in the Park Is
Cancelled. The organisers of London’s Reggae in
the Park concert have cancelled the event, scheduled for 5 September,
following intense lobbying by the gay rights group OutRage!

Royal Air Force to Officially
Participate in Manchester Gay Pride Parade, by
Andy Harley.
Parades are not the sort of activity that is relished in the military.
But for gay and lesbian personnel in the Royal Air Force a parade in
Manchester this weekend must be eagerly anticipated.

Fighting Talk at Opening of
Pride International Film Festival in Manila.
"The fight is our fight." These were the words of Fernando Josef, vice
president and artistic director of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP),
at the opening of the 2004 Pride International Film Festival (PIFF) at
the CCP Dream Theater (Tanghalang Manuel Conde).

Military's Highest Court
Declines to Strike Down Sodomy Statute.
In a decision published yesterday (August 23), the
military’s highest court of criminal appeals declined to strike down the
armed forces’ ban on private, consensual sodomy, known as Article 125 of the
Uniform Code of Military Justice. The court reviewed the statute in wake of
the U.S. Supreme Court decision in
Lawrence v. Texas
in June 2003.

Reggae Star to Play Montréal - Outrage! Call for Cancellation of Sizzla
Concert. British gay human rights group OutRage!
has sent an urgent appeal to Canadian gay and human rights organisations to
get the concert cancelled on the grounds that Sizzla incites the murder of
lesbians and gay man.

Stars of Coronation Street including Bruno Langley
(Todd Grimshaw), Jennie McAlpine (Fizz Brown) and newcomer Anthony Cotton
are joining the long list of celebs joining Big Brother's Nadia at this
year's Manchester Pride.

Singers?
The MOBO Award organisers are refusing to negotiate
with gay rights groups over the nomination of reggae singers who urge the
"burning, shooting, hanging and drowning" of lesbians and gay men.

Gay Magazine Calls for a
Representative Body of Gay UK Publications. axm, one of the
UK’s most widely read gay men’s lifestyle magazines, is calling on all
publishers and editors to create a Gay Media Association so that issues
affecting the “sector” as a whole can be addressed by a stronger, more
representative body.

Germany Axes Reggae Murder Music - Buju Banton's Concerts Cancelled.
Buju Banton's appearance at the Reggae Jam Festival in
Saarbruecken, Germany, on September 3, has been cancelled. Concert
appearances in Hamburg and Darmstadt have also been dropped.

Manchester Pride:
Temperate ‘Ladies’ Get Their Knickers in Twist Over Gay
Marriage.
The Salford Ladies United Temperance Society will be kicking off part of
Manchester Pride’s first weekend celebrations by marching up and down Canal
Street, spreading the word of temperance and disapproval to the public
tomorrow (Saturday August 21) afternoon.

Amnesty Confirms: Buju Banton
Accused of Gay-Bashing.
Amnesty International has confirmed reports that
Jamaican reggae singer Buju Banton was allegedly involved in a homophobic
attack in Kingston two moths ago. The confirmation comes in a letter
from Susan Lee, Amnesty’s Programme Director for the Americas, to Penthouse
Productions, the singer’s production company.

On the face of it, the seizing of a small uninhabited
island off the coast of north east Australian by a group of gays from
Queensland sounds like something straight from a Peter Sellers movie or an

were asked of gay men as part of the 2003 Gay Men's Sex Survey, and are part
of a project which aims to help form a better understanding of the
relationships between gay men and GPs.

A plan by LGBT communities to designate February each
year to be “LGBT History Month” in the United Kingdom has won the backing of
a Government Minister.

Victory Fund Endorses 50
Candidates in 22 States; More Expected.
WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 (U.S. Newswire) — The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund
today announced that its recent endorsement of five more candidates puts its
number of endorsed gay, lesbian, and transgender candidates for public
office at 50 for 2004.

Website Mobilizes American
College Students in Support of Gay Marriage.
In response to the recent flurry of activity surrounding same-sex marriage,
two Stanford University students launched ForGayMarriage.org last week, a
website aimed at mobilizing college students to fight for gay marriage by
giving students simple ways to become politically involved in equal rights.

Chicago's LCCP Joins forces
With Howard Brown. Howard Brown Health Center (HBHC) and Lesbian
Community Cancer Project (LCCP) announced today a landmark collaborative
relationship that will combine both organizations' resources to provide
greater access to health care for the lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LBT)
community.
