The Women Affairs and Youth
Committee of Nigeria's House of Representatives held a hearing on February.
14 on an extreme antigay bill that some activists had believed was not going
to see any action.

Love: It’s a Hot Topic. They’re so cute, so cuddly, so
adorable. But penguins can also be controversial.
Roy and Silo, two male penguins in
New York’s Central Park Zoo, had an affair that sparked a hot debate over
the nature vs. nurture theory of homosexuality as the pair became the
world’s best known “gay” penguins.

demonstration is to be staged outside London’s City Hall on Wednesday when

Unite in Belarus.
Representatives of most gay and lesbian groups have agreed to work together
where possible in joint projects. Unpublicised, the meeting was said to have
been a “great success”.

Oppose Proposed Nigerian Ban on Gays.
Voicing serious concern over a
proposed Nigerian bill which would effectively outlaw same-sex
relationships, four independent United Nations experts have said it would violate international human rights norms, and
urged the Government to withdraw it immediately.

Advocating Tolerance of Gays in Schools Branded ‘Inappropriate’.
Commentary.
Somewhere out it the ‘backwoods’ of Indiana, in the
land of free speech and tolerance, there has been something of a nuclear
explosion over a newspaper article advocating a little tolerance of gays.
The furore has not been caused by some established writer on gay issues like
Deb Price, but by a heterosexual Megan Chase, the writer and her newspaper
hardly known to the world – until yesterday.

A humorous video of young Dominican monks in Krakow
performing a routine of the iconic “gay anthem” originated by The Village

Welcome by Gay Christians for Decision of Troubled Anglican Primates Meeting.
There was a cautious welcome to the communiqué issued late last night by the
Primates of the Anglican Communion meeting in Dar Es Salaam from three
Christian gay advocacy groups.

Gay Iraqi at London ‘Faith’ Conference.
The leader of the gay rights group Iraqi LGBT, Ali Hili,
received a standing ovation from 250 delegates when he addressed the “Faith,
Homophobia and Human Rights” conference in London on Saturday.

Civil Union Bill Will Give Legal Recognition to Same-Sex Unions.

the tabling of this Bill marks a significant watershed in our legislative
and social history. This week will mark the first time that the Dail
has been given the opportunity to consider legislation providing for the
recognition and registration of civil unions entered into between persons of
the same sex.

The Dáil Éireann (Irish Parliament’s lower house), is set to debate and vote on
civil unions for gay couples next week.

Out Homophobic Hate-Crime. Hundreds of lesbian and gay people and
their friends are expecteded to join Stonewall for the charity’s 4th annual

gay Christians in Nigeria has written an open letter to the Archbishops of
the world-wide Anglican Communion on the eve of the debate in the Nigerian

Gay Pride in Chisinau Unlawful – Supreme Court. The Supreme Court
of the Republic of Moldova ruled today that the refusal of the Chisinau city
hall to authorise the gay and lesbian solidarity march in the city last year

Support of
Freedom of Assembly for Gays. Last
week’s announcement by the Russian Federation that it supports the freedom
of assembly for gays has been welcomed by the European Parliament’s
Intergroup for gay and lesbian rights, but with a degree of caution.

The

Gay Life (HGL) is marking LGBT History Month with two ‘fun’ events in the
city’s gay village.

Russian Government Supports Freedom
of Assembly for Gays. In a remarkable statement on the
banning of Moscow Gay Pride last year, the Russian government has strongly
supported the right of sexual minorities to freedom of assembly.

4’s programme Out on Air, part of The Archive Hour series and

An American Congressman has today urged Secretary of State Condaleeza Rice to

HRC Urges
Homophobic Snickers Ads Be Pulled from Campaign. The Human
Rights Campaign (HRC), the USA’s largest gay, lesbian, bisexual
and transgender civil rights organization, is calling on the makers of
Snickers, and its parent company Mars Inc., to pull the ad campaign launched
yesterday during Sunday’s Superbowl.

Ian McKellen took to the stage at the Drill Hall theatre in London at the
weekend as a guest speaker at the launch of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans
History Month.

The battle
for equality is still far from won, gay activist Peter Tatchell told the
National Association of Schoolmasters and Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT)

Bullying Getting Worse, UK Gay Youth Group Says.
High-profile homophobic bullying initiatives are failing to make a
significant impact in preventing homophobic bullying, according to the Queer

President Vladimir Putin today made his first public statement on gay
rights. It is said to be the first-ever such statement in Russian
history.
