July 23 Nepal:  Elton John AIDS Foundation Backs Gay Group in Row With Nepal’s Health Chiefs over HIV.  The “bigoted and factually incorrect” stance taken by government health officials in Dhangadi, Nepal, this month has been criticised by the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
July 23 UK: 
Liverpool Councillor Appalled At ‘Secret’ Gay Bashing Report.  A Liverpool City Councillor said today that he was “appalled” at the findings of the Stormbreak Research, a report from the Council on homophobia and homophobic bullying in the city.

Gay Lifestyle Exhibition Not Associated With Pride London.  Pride London expressed concern this afternoon that Pride Lifestyle, an event run by Eton Events Ltd of Eastbourne, claims to be part of Pride London.

Another Reggae Superstar Comes Out Against Anti-Gay Lyrics.  Buju Banton is the latest top Jamaican reggae superstar to renounce homophobia and condemn violence against lesbians and gay men.

Gay Activists in Moscow Protest Persecution of Iranian Gays.  About two dozen gay and political activists demonstrated today in front of the Iranian Embassy in Moscow, protesting the execution and discrimination of gay people in Iran.

Gay Group Condemns Iran’s Continued Use of Sodomy Laws To Justify Executions.  IGLHRC speak out on second anniversary of execution of two teenagers.  Despite a widely publicized outcry two years ago when Iranian authorities executed two young men in the northeastern city of Mashhed, the government continues to target, arrest, prosecute, and execute individuals under its sodomy law.

New Website for Gay, Lesbian Asians and Arabs A new website for the Asian and Arab LGBT communities and their friends has been launched.

Nepal:   
Government Health Official Tells Gay Group Working on HIV Issues to “Find Something Better To Do”.  Nepal’s Blue Diamond Society (BDS) was told today to stop its ‘Care Support’ sexual health outreach programme in Dhangadi and “to look for something better to do”.  This is causing further grave concern over the level of homophobia that exists amongst the Government officials and NGO workers in Nepal, BDS says.

Gay Community Reels as Métis Assaulted by Police  for Carrying Condoms.  Police in Kathmandu today stand accused of assault on ‘Métis’ (transgender people) in Ratna Park last night after it was discovered that the métis were carrying condoms.

Tallinn Gay Pride 2007 Organisers: ‘Freedom of Assembly Is Constitutional Right, Too’.  Organisers of next month’s Tallinn Pride have hit back at local police who have said that a Gay Pride march would threaten the constitutional rights of other citizens.

Bilerico.com Re-Launches With Top Gay Activists, Authors The Bilerico website re-launches today as the Bilerico Project with a bullpen of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender activists, writers and professionals blogging about the direction of LGBT culture and activism.

Queer Duck to Visit Bournemouth for Gay Pride.  Showtime’s cult classic Queer Duck: The Movie is to get a screening in Bournemouth this weekend.

Big Brother “Poof” Controversy: Gays Fuming.  Channel Four is guilty of double standards and bias – it doesn’t take homophobic language as seriously as racist language, said Peter Tatchell, spokesperson for LGBTI human rights group OutRage!

Thailand: 
Gay Boycott of Accor, Novotel Hotels Lifted Following Apology in Thailand.  The boycott of Novotel and other hotels in the French-owned Accor group has been lifted following an agreement between the Novotel, Siam Square, Bangkok, and Khun Suttirat Simsiriwong who was barred from entering the hotel’s Concept CM2 bar two weeks ago.

Sri Lankan Grand Marshal “Inspired” by Toronto Gay Pride – and Canada It was the most the most awe-inspiring moment of my life!  Those were the words of Rosanna Flamer-Caldera when she returned to Sri Lanka after a trip to Canada where she was International Grand Marshal of Toronto Gay Pride last month.

Survey Finds Shocking Ignorance of HIV in UK.  People are still alarmingly ignorant about HIV, finds a survey published today by Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) to mark the 25th anniversary of Terry Higgins’ death with what was then Gay-Related Immune Deficiency (now Aids) in St. Thomas’ Hospital, London, in 1982.

Gay NGO Joins With Others to Protect Rights in Moldova.  GenderDoc-M, the gay and lesbian NGO in Moldova, has joined forces with other organisations for form an Antidiscrimination Consortium to protect the human rights of minorities.

Gay Radio Station Wins Third Prestigious Award.  GaydarRadio was yesterday (July 2) crowned Commercial Radio Digital Station of the Year at the Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards 2007.

Anti-Gay Bishop ‘Belongs In the Bronze Age’ – Humanists.  The Anglican Bishop of Carlisle was mocked today as a “bronze age primitive” by the Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association (GALHA).
