Sep 1: Russia: No Gay Activists Among the 70 Arrested at Moscow Demo. The fifteen gay activists who joined the ‘Strategy 31’ demonstration in Moscow’s Triumph Square yesterday escaped arrest, GayRussia is reporting today. It was the first time that gay activists joined the regular demonstration, held regularly of the 31 of appropriate months, organised by Russian opposition groups to protest the lack of official compliance of the country’s 31st article of its constitution.. AUGUST Aug 30: UK/Africa: Archbishop Williams Slammed by Gay Activist Tatchell at Christian Gathering. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, was putting the unity of the world-wide Anglican Church before gay and lesbian human rights, Peter Tatchell told an enthusiastic audience at the annual Greenbelt Festival in Cheltenham at the weekend. Aug 26: UK: Greenbelt Christian Festival Hosts Gay Activist Peter Tatchell. Calls by Anglican Mainstream for a boycott of the year’s Greenbelt Festival over the inclusion of gay human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell have failed. The Christian arts festival, known for its ‘inclusion’, get underway tomorrow at Cheltenham racecourse and continues over the holiday weekend. Aug 25: Nepal: Ambassador and His Staff at British Embassy March in Kathmandu Gay Pride. British Ambassador John Tucknott, and Embassy staff joined hands at the street parade in a show of support and solidarity with the sexual and gender minority communities of Nepal in the capital’s colourful Gay Pride parade this afternoon. Aug 20: Australia: Gays and Marriage Equality: Gillard Slammed Over ‘Christian Heritage’ Claim. Prime Minister Julia Gillard has been savaged by marriage equality advocates who have labelled her claim in the run-up to this weekend’s Federal Election that she opposes same-sex marriage because of Australia’s “heritage as a Christian country”, as offensive, ridiculous and extreme. Aug 16: Russia: “Kill Gays, Lesbians” Call by Former Russian Billionaire on Russian Radio. Russia’s first legal billionaire of modern times has called for the killing of all gays and lesbians. Former super-rich oligarch German Sterligov, who is said to have amassed a fortune in the commodities esxchanges when aged 24 following the collapse of the Soviet Union, confirmed that he wanted all gay men and women killed when he was interviewed at the weekend on the popular Moscow radio station Echo Moskvi. Aug 14: UK: Swindon Pride 2010 in Pictures: Rain Holds Off for Gay Parade. Aug 13: UK: Excitement Rising for Swindon and Wiltshire Gay Pride on Saturday. With only hours to go until the third Swindon and Wiltshire Pride event, the excitement is rising in the town’s gay community. Aug 10: Russia: Anti-Gay Feelings Still Running High in Russia, New Poll Suggests. The attitude of Russian society towards homosexuality, gay pride marches and same-sex marriages is hardening, a new opinion poll is suggesting. Aug 7: Russia: Russian Gays Plan ‘Pride House’ During Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. A “Pride House” is planned for the 2014 Winter Olympics scheduled to be staged in Sochi, it emerged last night. JULY July 28: UK: Review Gay Marriage Ban UK, Government Urged. Equalities Minister, Lynne Featherstone MP, has been urged to initiate a government review and public consultation on the ban on gay civil marriage. July 26: UK: Gay Human Rights Activist: “I Do My Bit for Social Justice But So Do Many Others”. On Friday July 23, human rights activist Peter Tatchell received an Honorary Doctorate of Letters, conferred by Sussex University and presented by the university’s Chancellor, Sanjeev Bhaskar, in a ceremony at Brighton Dome. Downtown Warsaw came to a complete standsrill this afternoon as the European Gay Pride parade wound its way through the streets for more than two hours. July 5: Hungary: Extreme Right Attacks Budapest Gay Pride Opening Event. The opening last night of the Budapest Gay Pride Festival was marred when two teenagers from a ‘neo-Nazi’ group assaulted a participant who was leaving the event. July 5: Jamaica: J-FLAG Calls for CARICOM to End Gay Discrimination. The Jamaica Forum for Lesbians All-sexuals and Gays (J-FLAG) mounted a ‘Stand Up to CARICOM’ yesterday morning opposite the entrance to the Hilton Rose Hall Resort, Montego Bay, Jamaica, site of the 31st CARICOM Heads of Government meeting. July 5: UK: Boris Backs Gay Marriage. When challenged by Peter Tatchell at Saturday’s Pride London gay parade, the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, declared his support for same-sex civil marriage. The Mayor was responding to Mr Tatchell’s placard, which read: “Dave & Sam Cameron can marry, gays can’t. End the ban on gay marriage.” July 4: Serbia: Wikipedia Removes Gay Group’s Page. Wikimedia Србије (Serbian Wikipedia) has removed the page on the Gay and Lesbian Info Center (GLIC), the gay group in Belgrade revealed today. The reason for the deletion, the group says, was that it is not a “relevant organisation.” July 3: UK: Pride London in Pictures.
