How This Section Started

Legend has it that it always rains in Manchester.  But for some reason, the annual Manchester Pride appears to be exempt for most of the weekend.

But in 2004, in the late morning on the Sunday, the Manchester weather was at its best (or should that be worst).  Fortunately, we were very close to a multi-storey car park whose ground level was given over to organisations providing services to the gay community.

And that is how we found GLP Solicitors.  They were there, taking part in the Pride festivities.  Over a cup of coffee, we spoke of the complexities of the law and how gay men and women often didn't know about their legal rights, let alone use the law to their advantage.

One thing led to another.  We said that articles on the law as it applies to the gay community were always welcome.  GLP said they could provide them.  We indicated we were strict over the non-commercial aspect of this site.  GLP appreciated our position.

After numerous meeting over the months, it was agreed that UK Gay News would create a "Your Rights" section and the editorial content would be the responsibility of GLP Solicitors.

As GLP Solicitors has a policy of assisting the gay community, the group is providing the articles at no cost. In return for us making this Section available, GLP Solicitors is assisting us in being able to continue to provide a totally "free" and independent international gay news web site as our popularity increases and we get into "bandwidth" problems.

Indeed, there is no such thing as a "free lunch"!
